Bookish Spotlights: Review of Illumicrate’s Glamour and Gold Special Edition Box

Box review of illumicrate’s special edition box that is not part of their monthly subscription, and is a box surrounding the release and world of Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare.

(All photos are from my own personal instagram, @Partimeavenger)

What’s in the box?

-Two gold foil art prints

-Deck of cards

-Letter opener, cortana

-Tea set, cup, teapot and saucer

-Special edition (no dust jacket) of Chain of Gold, rose gold foil on cover and spine, stained edges

I’m not going to lie, I was really surprised by how great this box was just because lately that their monthly boxes have been falling flat and keep showcasing the same items over and over again.

I do have to say, there was so much from this box that I loved and the items I didn’t – I still ended up liking a lot too. Such as the deck of cards (which they ended up sending everyone two new replacement cards of characters that were badly represented) an the art prints, pretty but not useful. But, I still really liked them, and will display them with the book.

I really have to talk about what items I went nuts over from this box, starting with the tea set. The tea set is something of beauty. Coming with a cup, teapot and saucer that combine all together with fall colors, leaves, a painted metallic gold gate and quote. I haven’t had the chance to use this set yet, mostly because I’m stuck staring at it looking so pretty on my shelf. The next item is the Triptych, Bridge through time, done by artist Rosie Thorns (@Rosiethornss8). This art piece is something I’ve never seen before, let alone in a book box. It’s great and I love that its for Tessa, Will and Jem from The Infernal Devices series.

Then there is the Cortana letter opener, which has been seen in other book boxes but not at all in this subscription box. The reason why this one stands out is the details and the metal, a perfect mini sword.

Lastly we have the book and blanket, done once again by the talented Yoshi Yoshitani (@yoshiyoshitan). The book is a beautiful special edition with orange gold foil stamped into the hardback cover (no dust jacket), a stamped signature and burnt orange stained edges.

In the end this box made me want t buy more special edition boxes and books from Illumicrate in the future.

Rating of box: 4.8 out of 5 stars.
