Bookish Spotlights: Review of illumicrate’s “Worlds Collide” March box

This box is a part of illumicrate’s monthly young adult book box.

(All photos are from my own personal instagram, @Partimeavenger)

What’s in the box?

Alice in Wonderland kyechain

City of Brass gold foil art print

-2 magnetic coins (Cardan & Jude)

-Rosie Thorns mug (Throne of Glass series- Heir of Fire)

-Candle

-Necklace inspired by His Dark Materials

Haven Fall by Sara Holland (stained edges, signed bookplate, and an author’s letter)

The real reason I bought this box was for the Rosie Thorns mug, I  love them so much. I was a bit interested in this months theme and jumped right in. Sadly, the box was an all around disappointment. The mug was the only good, because the art for this one was Throne of Glass (although I was hoping for art from the last book, but it was still great). Though I think the mug is smaller then the other ones, which are pretty big.

My least favorite items were the Alice in Wonderland key-chain (which wasn’t anything interesting and came broken) and the necklace inspired by His Dark Materials. I do like the HDM series, I haven’t read it, but I’m really into the new TV show (its so good). I think I’ll be sending this necklace to a friend of mine (her daughter loves the series).

The two magnetic coins were nice, again nothing new or haven’t seen before-but they look really nice on my book cart (they are Cardan and Jude from the Folks of Air series).  I also really liked the gold foil print from City of Brass series. Although, I haven’t read the series yet (I am reading book one at this very moment).

Lastly, we have the candle and the book. The candle was only okay (pretty), and smelled eh. The book this month was Haven fall, which I have started reading and like. The special edition illumicrate did isn’t very special- just stained edges and a signed bookplate.

Overall, not a great box that felt like the money was worth it. It will take a lot more to get me to buy another monthly box from illumicrate, which is sad because I love those mugs.

Rating of box: 1 out of 5 stars.
