Bookish Spotlights: Review of illumicrate’s December monthly box “Secrets and Schemes”

(All photos are from my own personal instagram, @Partimeavenger)

What’s in the box?

-A copy of Blood Heir, with stained edges (that look like blood dripping)

-A Court of Mist and Fury Mug by Rosie Thorns

-Art and quote 2020 calendar

-Caraval inspired patch of Legendary-top hat

-Star Wars pin set

-Candle

-Collectible magnet coin, Kaz Breeker

This was a bit of a lackluster box compared to other monthly boxes I’ve gotten from illumicrate. Sadly, the mug and mini art/quote calendar were my favorite things from the box. Everything else in the box was pretty meh. I did love Blood Heir, but the only change they did to their edition was the stained edge making it look like the book was dripping blood.

The mug was great, I love Rosie Thorns. Her paper crafts are all thing of beauty. this was another nice mug in the collection illumicrate is working on with Rosie Thorns, and I can’t wait for more in 2020. The image on this mug was from A Court of Mist and Fury- A.K.A. – the best book of the series! I can still remember so many quotes and moments from that book. Anyway, the moment on the mug is a well remembered one- Feyre scantly clad and Rhy on the Throne looking like the darkest king we’ve ever seen. And leaves all the fans swooning.

The second and last really good thing about this box was the art/quote calendar. Although, I don’t think I will use or hang this up. I will take it apart for the prints that were crazy pretty.

This is all I pretty much have to say on this box- next time I will think a little harder on if I’m going to buy one of the monthly boxes just for the mug. I want them all- but no the other stuff I’m not going to use.

Rating of box: 1.5 out of 5 stars.
