ARC Review of The Tea Dragon Festival by Katie O’Neill

The Tea Dragon Festival by Katie O’Neill

Review: I cannot thank Margot Wood enough (who used to work at Epic Reads, you know the one-she did Tea Time Reads), who now works with Oni Press. Anyway, THANK YOU MARGOT!!!!

Now that’s out of the way, I completely loved The Tea Dragon Society and once I heard about the prequel novel The Tea Dragon Festival was coming out later this year, I made it my mission to try and get this ARC.

I absolutely  loved The Tea Dragon Festival! The artwork, the wild tea dragons raised and cared for by the whole village. It was funny to hear that the village sees the tea dragons as pests that they are overrun with, yet still love to care for them and spoil them. I am curious about how the tea dragons are related to the real dragons (who are fully grown without growing tea leaves and such) and how they fit into this world. I am also interested in the family dynamic of our main characters ( Erik’s family) timeline, and was really happy to see Erik and Hesekiel again (younger, in love and full of adventure).

Another two cute and great things I noticed in this book was that there was ALS (American Sign Language) for a character who was deaf, this was amazing because its basically really rare in comic books (especially young adult comics). The second cutest thing was the tea dragons being all dressed up for the festival, I’ve added a photo I took of the page that shows them all dressed up so you all can see the cuteness.

In the end I hope we will be getting many more spin offs and other books with more tea dragons in the future! I already know that there will be more plush stuffed animals of the dragons coming too! We already can get out hands on one so far from Oni Press.

Favorite quote(s):

“It was just proud of something it loved.”

“I know the feeling.”

But I think I was always meant to come here, and meet you. Whatever I do from now on will be lovelier, and richer, because I understand what’s important now. And because I have a home.

Would I? Reread? YES, ABSOLUTELY! Recommend to others? HELL YEAH! Buy a finished copy for myself and friends? UM, HELLO! YES
