Check, Please! Year One (Check, Please! #1) by Ngozi Ukazu

Review: I only heard about this web comic series from a friend of mine on twitter (yes we are friends in real life, and have hung out). Anyway, I knew I had to check it out because she has never given me a bad recommendation before. Right away I was pulled into Bittle’s video blog (story), and just fell head over heels for him. I just think he is the cutest and he is so brave, and absolutely amazing.

Ukazu hits on some hard topics in a way that adds the emotion to her story of Bittle and hockey. But adding in all these funny and difficult characters to the story of Bittle. Ukazu makes it into a story about all of these characters instead of just one about a by named Eric Bittle.

Favorite Quote: I have many, almost too many.

Would I? Stop yelling at others to read this? No, never. Reread again for the millionth time? Yes, please.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.

Edition: Paperback, 236 pages.

Young Adult. Comic. Romance. Sports. LGBTQ. Mature Themes. Contemporary.

Check, Please! is also a web-comic that is updated (kinda of) regularly and you can read it in its entirety –HERE – Also the ART GETS BETTER, OKAY GUYS! But you all should read this and buy the paperback/hardbacks and swag when they come out!

SummaryEric Bittle – former figure skater, vlogger extraordinaire, and amateur patissier – is starting his freshman year playing hockey at the prestigious Samwell University. And it’s nothing like co-ed club hockey back in Georgia. For one?

There’s checking.

It’s a story about hockey and friendship and bros and trying to find yourself during the best four years of your life.
