Review: I was really looking forward to getting my hands on this book! I having been dying for anything written by Tahereh Mafi, even if it was a shopping list. I am just so addicted to her writing. Lucky for me I was able to get my hands on an ARC of the book and blew through it in about a week.

The first thing I have to say about this book, is that it is very different from her young adult series Shatter Me. Furthermore is for  younger readers, but can be read by whoever. But there were many parts of this book that were a bit confusing, kind of like Alice falling into the hole after chasing the white rabbit with all that stuff falling around her too. I felt like that many times throughout the book, a bit out of place.

Although the overall meaning and main story plot of Furthermore was amazing and is making me get this book for my younger sister. The narration of the book was the most off putting for me to read, it was difficult and made the process all the harder to read. There was no real need for it. But this also might just be in the advanced copies and might have changed for the final publishing. I know I will be looking out for the final print to see if this was the case. I also have the need to add that the world(s) themselves in the book were beautiful imagined and greatly crafted.

Anyway it really does seem that Tahereh Mafi has made another great book that is about believing in yourself. I’m looking forward to ( hopefully more and sooner) books by her in the future.

Favorite quote: ” Alice would choose to love herself, different and extraordinary, every day of the week.”

Would I? Buy this book in the published format? Yes. Would I buy it for any friends? Maybe. Would I recommend it to everyone? No, mostly because it is for the younger reader. More like middle school age…..

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Summary: The bestselling author of the Shatter Me series takes readers beyond the limits of their imagination in this captivating new middle grade adventure where color is currency, adventure is inevitable, and friendship is found in the most unexpected places.

There are only three things that matter to twelve-year-old Alice Alexis Queensmeadow: Mother, who wouldn’t miss her; magic and color, which seem to elude her; and Father, who always loved her. The day Father disappears from Ferenwood he takes nothing but a ruler with him. But it’s been almost three years since then, and Alice is determined to find him. She loves her father even more than she loves adventure, and she’s about to embark on one to find the other.

But bringing Father home is no small matter. In order to find him she’ll have to travel through the mythical, dangerous land of Furthermore, where down can be up, paper is alive, and left can be both right and very, very wrong. Her only companion is a boy named Oliver whose own magical ability is based in lies and deceit–and with a liar by her side in a land where nothing is as it seems, it will take all of Alice’s wits (and every limb she’s got) to find Father and return home to Ferenwood in one piece. On her quest to find Father, Alice must first find herself–and hold fast to the magic of love in the face of loss.
