Review of The Boy Next Door by Katie Van Ark

The Boy Next Door by Katie Van Ark

Review: I was super pulled into the summary of this book because I have never read an ice skating book before. Unless you count one two shot manga series. But yeah, I knew nothing about figure skating couple/ or real skating in general.

Right away this book got me to fall head over heels for it. The prologue is of the two main characters first time on the ice as children. Which is cute and I can totally picture them all dressed up and a little scared to go out on the ice. The next thing that I found awesome about this book is that the chapters switch between the two main characters, Maddy and Gabe.

It was great reading from both their points of view on the situation that they were in with each. Maddy loving Gabe and wanting him to just love her back as she loves him. And Gabe not wanting to be anything but friends with Maddy because he doesn’t want to mess anything up and because he’s to scared to take that leap.

I really wish there was more to the book or even maybe a squeal, because I just want to know more about the ending. But Katie Van Ark does a great job of closing up all the loose ends and giving the readers a great ending.

5 out of 5 stars.

Gabe can’t imagine skating with anyone but Maddy, and together they have a real chance at winning some serious gold medals. So, he’s determined to keep thinking of her like a sister. After all, he’s never had a romantic relationship that lasted for more than two weeks.

But when their coach assigns a new romantic skating program, everything changes. Will this be the big break that Maddy’s been hoping for or the big breakup that Gabe has always feared?
